International audienceAfter a brief overview of the emergence of gender studies as a new field of scientific inquiry related both to the democratization process in Eastern Europe and to the internationalization of the academic spaces in the region, the paper depicts, through a review of works produced and circulated since the beginning of the 1990s, the main topics of transatlantic debates dealing with the possibility of feminism in the region. Dominated for a long time by the " East-West misunderstanding ", these debates assess the specificity of East-European societies on the account of their communist legacy, and generate the critical examination of some classical feminist concepts.
